Fudge Brownies

Items 1-3 on the Kailley’s Kitchen summer bucket list have been covered; if you missed them, click here and here, and take notes! Today, it’s item #4…

The road trip: Whether you’re itching for that classic coming-of-age cross-country excursion to exercise your independence, or simply aching to hit the open road with some friends and see new faces and places, preparing for a road trip is paramount if you want to prevent it from spontaneously turning into an endless deathride of misery. Here are a few steps you should take to ensure that “Hell on wheels” only fits as far as your propensity for lead-foot driving is concerned.

Start by judiciously peppering your road trip playlist with the following songs (this is especially for you, my gearhead friends):

Once your playlist has been properly spiced, make sure you map out a plan to hit as many food-oriented roadside sites as you can squeeze into your itinerary.

Need ideas? Mourn discontinued ice cream flavors in the Flavor Graveyard during a Ben & Jerry’s Factory Tour in Waterbury, Vermont. Strike a chord with your inner monarch by proclaiming, “let them eat cheese!” to your commoner cohorts at the Cheese Castle off I-94 near Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Sip a “world famous” medjool date shake in Dateland, Arizona’s truck stop (or a cactus shake, if you prefer your dates bacon-wrapped instead of liquefied). Or just double up on these fudge brownies before you hit the road– make sure they’re packed somewhere easily accessible.

The ultimate challenge: procure a classic car (preferably a sporty one) for the trip. Read one driver’s account of his experience here for perspective and ideas.
