Glazed and Infused is one of Chicago’s most iconic doughnut shops, staking its claim in five different neighborhoods across the expansive city and slinging ridiculously indulgent doughnut dogma. With a name that’s a play on the 1993 cult classic film Dazed and Confused, G and I manages to turn even the most timid doughnut consumers into legitimate sugar-coated-fried-dough junkies.
Where in Chicago is Glazed and Infused, you ask? Try West Loop, River North, Lincoln Park, Streeterville, and Wicker Park. It’s as close to omnipresent as drug dealers doughnut shops get in the Windy City.
Even the most ill-informed of us ought to know by now what cronuts are. Puzzled? Croissant/doughnut hybrids, kids, a.k.a.the biggest trend currently dominating the food world (mini cupcakes, who?). While they aren’t expected to be a mainstay fixture on the menu, cronuts are selling like… well, cronuts at G and I. My advice? Scoop ’em up while they last! They come in two breeds:
A piping hot cinnamon and sugar dusted entity,
and vanilla bean-glazed studded with serious sugar crystal bling. Somewhere, Walter White is scheming up a new doughnut business front that pushes meth-encrusted cronuts after-hours.
These may look like a doughnutified interpretation of Samoas, but they’re actually caramel-glazed doughnuts coated in crack toffee and a drizzle of chocolate.
Rosie the Riveter says, “Eat more doughnuts, bitches.”
We all know bacon is the gateway meat, so it’s only natural that G and I would offer a long-john coated in rich maple glaze and peppered bacon. Sorry, there’s no cure for ODing, but these really are worth biting the dust for.
You know what’s better than bacon? Nothing, but these doughnuts stuffed with creme brûlée and drenched in a brûléed sugar crust come in as a close second.
They tried to make me go to rehab and I said, “no no no,” (because I’m a doughnut addict and have no desire to give up my dirty habit).
Glazed and Infused’s menu changes fairly frequently, so be sure to check out their website for locations, hours, and their latest lineup!
